The American Cancer Society is proud to recognize Dr. Brian Druker, CEO of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, as the 2026 Portland Hope Gala Honoree.
A visionary physician-scientist, Dr. Druker’s groundbreaking work led to the development of Gleevec, the first targeted therapy for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). His pioneering research transformed a once-fatal diagnosis into a manageable disease, launched the era of precision cancer medicine, and paved the way for hundreds of targeted cancer therapies
that continue to save lives today.
Dr. Druker’s journey has been closely intertwined with the American Cancer Society for more than 40 years. Early in his career, ACS invested in his promising research through three grants, helping support the groundbreaking discoveries that would change the future of cancer treatment. Today, the American Cancer Society continues to invest more than
$11.5 million in cancer research at OHSU, advancing innovative science and improving outcomes for patients.
